The Afridev is a deepwell reciprocating type
handpump suitable for installation on cased boreholes and dug
wells with static water level up to 45 meters. This handpump design
is the culmination of joint efforts of multilateral and bilateral
agencies, government's agencies, NGOs, research organization and
manufacturers in private sector and many individuals.
This pump is used in several countries Asia and Africa. The current
specification of this pump, titled SKAT/HTN Afridev Handpump Specification-Revision
2 -1994 is available from the Swiss Center for Development Cooperation
in Technology and Management (SKAT), Switzerland.
The pump has been designed for simple maintenance, using few tools
and minimum skills, and has several novel design features such
as eye and hook pumprod joint, extractable plunger and foot valve,
adjustable handle, corrosion-resistant below-ground components
and plastic bearing bushes. These features make the Afridev handpump
a user-friendly handpump and easy to install and maintain.
